primary non-hodgkin lymphoma of the stomach: clinicopathological characteristics and prognostic factors in iranian patients
نویسندگان
چکیده
background: primary gastric lymphoma (pgl) is an uncommon malignancy with various histological subtypes and treatment outcomes. the aim of this study was to investigate the potential prognostic factors and clinicopathological characteristics of iranian patients with pgl. methods: the clinicopathological characteristics of 60 patients with pgl were retrospectively reviewed from 2001 to 2012. the patients underwent various combinations of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery. we evaluated multiple potential prognostic factors and their associations with patient survival rate. results: according to the results, diffuse large b-cell lymphoma (dlbcl) and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (malt) were two predominant histological subtypes. the majority of cases were diagnosed with stage i tumor in the distal part of the stomach. the 5-year disease-free survival (dfs) and overall survival (os) rates were 60% and 70%, respectively. it was revealed that poor world health organization (who) performance status, presence of b symptoms, and international prognostic index (ipi) score≥3 were significantly associated with decreased patient survival. conclusion: most of the patients with pgl in early stage have a favorable prognosis. please cite this article as: hosseini s, dehghan p. primary non-hodgkin lymphoma of the stomach: clinicopathological characteristics and prognostic factors in iranian patients. iran j cancer prev. 2014;7(4):219-24.

Background and Objectives: Classic Hodgkin lymphoma (CHL), anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) and some cases of diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) have overlapping morphologic features. Since they all represent distinct clinico-pathologic entities, we explored the differential diagnostic impact of immunophenotyping to discriminate between them. Materials and Methods:...
متن کاملPrognostic Factors in Hodgkin Lymphoma
Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is among the neoplastic diseases that has the best long-term outcome after cytotoxic treatment. Cure rates approach 80-90%; however, 15-20% of patients will be resistant to therapy (primary refractory) or relapse after treatment. Prognostic factors should help to stratify treatment according to the risk profile and identify patients at risk for failure. Significance of pro...

متن کاملOptimal use of prognostic factors in non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
The management of non-Hodgkin lymphoma is complicated by wide heterogeneity within recognized subtypes. Patients with supposedly similar diagnoses can have remarkably varied clinical presentations, molecular profiles and clinical outcomes. Reliable prognostic markers could allow the identification of patient subsets that may benefit from alternate approaches. Historically, a large number of cli...
